The fat of Hilsa Fish [Tenualosa ilisha (Hamilton, 1822)] were found 4.97 ± 0.89 to 8.21 ± 1.87%. Fat generally varies much more widely than other proximate components of fish, and usually reflects differences in the way fat is stored and may also be affected by seasonal/lifecycle variations and the diet/food availability of the species at the time of sampling. Hilsa fish have a higher content of dark muscle which tends to be rich in fat.
