According to sealifebase.ca, this species found in Montenegro, Portugal and Brazil. On the other hands, FAO areas where Alpheus macrocheles occurs are listed as – Atlantic, Northeast; Atlantic, Eastern Central; the Mediterranean and the Black Sea; and Atlantic, Southwest.

According to gbif.org, this species found in France, Spain, UK, French Polynesia, Portugal, Malta, Ireland, USA, Greece, Suriname, Saint Helena; Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, Equatorial Guinea, Cabo Verde, Angola, Guinea, Bahamas, Guernsey, Congo, Saudi Arabia and the Virgin Islands, US.
